UNIQUE GUADALCANAL BOOK NOW IN PRINT
Honiara, Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands – 18 July 2017 – An essential guide to major World War Two battle sites in Solomon Islands has been published ahead of this year’s 75th anniversary (August, 2017) of the Battle of Guadalcanal.
The Guide to the Guadalcanal Battlefields by John Innes is a ‘must have’ book for military historians, visiting veterans and tourists alike.
The publication not only recounts the experience of World War Two in Solomon Islands, it also provides maps, photographs and comprehensive details of where the key battlefields are located and what can be seen by the modern-day traveller. Often using oral history material gathered from visiting Allied veterans who served in Solomon Islands during the war, the book also details the memories of Solomon Islanders caught up in one of the war’s major conflicts.
John Innes is, arguably, the most respected military historian in Solomon Islands and he has spent years exploring the battlefields, researching in archives and speaking with veterans from home and abroad. His expertise has won him honorary status with the US Marine Raiders’ Association and a reputation as a skilled tour guide, raconteur and author. The book brings together, in one volume, a number of John’s works originally printed in booklet form.
The Guide to the Guadalcanal Battlefields is now available and can be ordered from the author at firstname.lastname@example.org or through the Solomons Scouts and Coastwatchers’ Trust at email@example.com
